Love Isn't Always Wild

Love is patient, love is kind

A quote from one of my favorite love song goes, “love is patient, love is kind." I only (truly) understood the meaning of this quote up until about a week ago.

Last week, my grandparents celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary and renewed their vows. This entire event got me thinking about love and what love means. My perception of love in terms of a romantic love is one that is wild. It’s loud. Free. Noticeable.

Love matters most through the tough times. Are you willing to accept my ugly? Are you willing to deal with my bullsh*t? Love me even when I’m at my worst?

Love grows into something more quiet. I often thought that the wild raging love we have with someone in the beginning often referred to as the ‘Honeymoon Phase’ is the peak of true love. But after talking to a wise woman (aka my mother) she said that love settles down into something quiet. Peaceful. Serene.

Love isn’t always wild. Love gets boring. But it’s deciding to stick to that person no matter what because of what you saw in them when you first met them. Love doesn’t have to be suffocating. Love isn’t enough to sustain you. There needs to be support, freedom, friendship and room. Room is important. Room to make mistakes. Room to be your own person. Room to breathe.

So, Happy 50th Anniversary to my grandparents!

I hope someday, I get to experience that kind of love.❤️
